Turmeric, the spice that gives your food such a lovely bright yellow color, it almost looks like gold. And have we not heard of golden milk, also known as turmeric latte? I am sure you have.So I thought, why not add a bit to my smoothie? And yes, I gave it a try: a vegan golden version, with mango, vanilla protein powder and of course turmeric. But what vegetable would I use? Parsnip! This lovely winter root vegetable has a sweet taste like carrot, but at the same time it is had a more earthy and nutty taste, not for forget the aniseed flavour. All in all a rich and complex taste which I think combines really well with fruit. At the moment the parsnip season is ending there in The Netherlands, so I was happy to give it a try before it was too late!
The protein powder and flax seeds make sure this smoothie is really rich in proteins, so a perfect way to start your day or as a post workout drink.
And last but not least, the turmeric. It has a high percentage of manganese and iron and provides a good level of fiber, vitamin B6, potassium, vitamin C and magnesium. There are many health benefits linked to curcumin, a compound of turmeric. It can help to fight inflammation, but be aware that turmeric only contains a small percentage of curcumin.0
