Green smoothies, there is really something about it. The first time in my life I made one, I used a mix that contained cellery and chia seeds. I think it took me 2 hours to finish the jar… 😉 But fortunately I did not give up on them. Ever since I have been making my green smoothie almost on a daily basis.
I love the fact that you put lots and lots of leafy greens and superfoods in them. An excellent way to complement your daily vegetable intake. And with the right combination of fruit, veggies and herbs they taste amazing. Even kids go crazy for them!
After making the same one over and over again, it was time for change. In the book The Green Kitchen Travels I found a recipe for a green yoga smoothie, well, you can image that that got my attention: green smoothie and yoga in one sentence! I had to try it out. And wow, what an amazing flavour. The lemon juice, wheatgrass powder and ginger really give this smoothie a refreshing taste. Again my conclusion was that David and Luise from The Green Kitchen Stories really know about good tasty vegetarian food. I love all of their books and honestly I have to make all of their dishes, it is almost impossible to choose which one to make first!
Wheatgrass powder might sound a bit strange to you, but believe me it tastes really well in this smoothie. I remember really well the first time in my life I drank a wheatgrass shot as a nice healthy juice bar in Amsterdam. It really tasted like the smell of freshly cut grass! I really liked it. So at home I always have the wheatgrass powder. Did you know that that is gluten-free?
When it some to nutritional value, wheatgrass is a source of potassium, vitamine A, B6, C, E and K, dietary fiber, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. It really makes this smoothie have a great nutritional value!
